How to – Reset Administrator Username and Password in SmarterStats

Applies to: SmarterStats (all versions)

To reset the primary administrator login and password, follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows Explorer (My Computer).
2. Go to C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterStats (or wherever you installed SmarterStats).
3. Open the MRS subdirectory.
4. Open the App_Data subdirectory.
5. Open the Config subdirectory.
6. Back up a copy of the AppConfig.xml file.
7. Right-click on AppConfig.xml and choose Open With -> Notepad.
8. Find the three lines that look like this:

<SmarterStatsAdmin>…</SmarterStatsAdmin>
<SmarterStatsPassword />
<SmarterStatsPasswordEnc>…</SmarterStatsPasswordEnc>

Delete those three lines and save the file.

For these changes to take effect, you will need to stop and start the SmarterStats service. Then you should be able to log in to SmarterStats using the following login information:

Site ID: admin
Username: admin
Password: admin
